CryptoBlades Integrates Chainlink VRF on Binance Smart Chain to Power Verifiably Random Gameplay
CryptoBlades, a blockchain- and NFT-based RPG on Binance Smart Chain (BSC), is pleased to announce a new integration with Chainlink, the industry-leading decentralized oracle network. CryptoBlades is beginning by using Chainlink VRF as the source of randomness used to determine the outcome of all entropy-based gameplay scenarios like the content of NFT-based loot drops, the weapon rarity from chance-based upgrades, and user matchmaking results. Additionally, Cryptoblades will look to support other Chainlink oracle services in the future to accelerate our development, such as Chainlink Price Feeds to enable the listing of NFT assets in our marketplace in stable currencies.
CryptoBlades is an NFT crafting game on Binance Smart Chain where gamers can create NFT-backed characters and weapons. Thus, gamers have no limitations when it comes to trading or transferring their in-game assets, as the development company has no ownership rights to them. Gamers are empowered to customize characters endlessly, earn SKILL tokens — the internal currency of CryptoBlades with locked liquidity — by playing the game, and craft unique NFTs. Users can earn SKILL by defeating monsters, participating in raids, staking their earnings, trading powerful weapons on the marketplace.
A key part of the CryptoBlades gaming experience is unpredictability, which creates excitement, enhances competition, and makes the game fair to all participants. However, accessing a source of randomness on the blockchain is not straightforward. For example, blockchain-based Random Number Generator (RNG) solutions like block hashes introduce vulnerabilities where miners can choose to publish a block only when this would generate more favorable results for themselves. Alternatively, off-chain RNG solutions are opaque and provide no proof that they are indeed random. Both of these problems become magnified as the value of the NFT assets grows.
Chainlink Verifiable Randomness Function (VRF) overcomes these problems by providing a tamper-proof RNG solution that allows its integrity to be verifiable by all users. Chainlink VRF is the industry-leading RNG solution, allowing projects to rely on it to create unpredictable outcomes with the highest amount of reliability and transparency. Other projects that have already integrated Chainlink VRF include PoolTogether, Ether Cards, Aavegotchi, and more.
Chainlink VRF works by combining block data that is still unknown when the request is made with the oracle node’s pre-committed private key to generate both a random number and a cryptographic proof. The CryptoBlades game will only accept the random number input if it has a valid cryptographic proof, and the cryptographic proof can only be generated if the VRF process is tamper-proof. This provides users with automated and publicly verifiable assurances directly on-chain that each situation using Chainlink VRF for randomness is provably fair and cannot be tampered with or predicted by the oracle, outside entities, blockchain miners, or the CryptoBlades team.
